Exhibitions

Our Visual Arts department has built a reputation for facilitating the creation of high quality and thought-provoking exhibitions, through the media of photography, art, montage and multimedia, working predominantly with individuals and groups who may find it difficult to access mainstream arts provision.

Most of the people we work with would probably not define themselves as artists, but I'm sure that when you look at their work you will be impressed by the quality of their creativity. We believe that given the opportunity, encouragement and facilitation, most people will find the artist within themselves.

Across the Great Divide

Made by young people living in Betws near Bridgend, this exhibition shows Betws from a young person's perspective.

Around the World in 10 Days

Valley and Vale Community Arts devised and facilitated this International Summer Arts project, working with local children and young people in the village of Betws in August 2007.

A Walk on the Wild Side

This exhibition was facilitated by Alison McGann, working with young people living in the Wildmill Estate in Bridgend.

Beyond the Crime

We have been working in Parc Prison with a group of 18-21 year olds. Sadly, the stories they tell are all too similar:

'Didn't get on in school... started taking drugs when I was eight... then got into crime... have been in prison many times before'

Positive and Proud

The Positive and Proud exhibition was established as a celebration of the year of the disabled person. The images displayed are a reflection of the hopes and aspirations of a committed group of adults with learning disability. They represent the result of each individual's personal journey to self-awareness and self-discovery.

Tondu Primary School Murals

This exhibition project was facilitated by Alison McGann and adds to our collection of amazingly creative visual arts work produced by children and young people living in the Bridgend area and funded by the New Opportunities Fund.

Tynewydd

This exhibition and postcard series was made by children at Tynewydd School in Ogmore Vale using photography to represent their school and valley from their viewpoint. Facilitated by Alison McGann.

Young Carers' Murals

Young Carers are children and young people under the age of eighteen who provide care to another family member.  The person they care for may have a physical disability or illness, a learning disability, mental health problems, a sensory disability, is misusing drugs or alcohol, have HIV/AIDS, or is frail.
