Visual Arts Projects 2003
After Schools' Arts and Media Projects
This
project was funded by The New Opportunities Fund and we worked in partnership
with Bridgend County Borough Council in many of our local Primary and
Comprehensive schools throughout 2003 and into 2004.
We worked all year in After School Arts and Media Clubs, offering visual arts, photography, video, drama and multi-media opportunities and creating arts and media works around a range of youth and school life issues which were all shown and displayed in the schools during the year.
River of life
This was a lovely project working with children at my local school. The mural was a twelve foot long journey through time exploring different cultures and civilizations from the earliest humans up to the twentyfirst century. I felt the children learnt a lot about different civilizations from history and their artistic ability increased considerably throughout the year.
Welcome Murals
Another project from the New Opportunities Fund. Pupils at Maesteg Comprehensive decided to explore other cultures around the world and came up with the idea of doing various paintings of the word 'welcome' in different languages.
We found over 300 different languages and so the children chose two each and created artwork which incorporated what they found out about those cultures. Languages chosen ranged from widely spoken ones such as French and Spanish, to lesser known ones such as Maori and Native American Indian.
The artwork now forms an impressive display at the entrance to the school.
