Film Projects 2005
Youth Achievement Award -
'Beyond the Crime'

We are pleased to announce that one of our film projects has won a Youth Work in Wales Excellence Award. 'Beyond the Crime' is a youth film project run by Katja Stiller, in partnership with Rhondda Cynon Taff Borough Council. This film workshop has been run in HMP Parc Prison in Bridgend, working with young offenders in the juvenile unit there, exploring issues aroung their lives, crimes, and futures. The Youth Work in Wales Excellence Award was first introduced by the Minister of State for Wales in 1994. It is an annual award scheme which aims to recognise the talents of organisations and individuals within those organisations working with young people - either in past projects or ongoing work. It is sponsored by the Welsh Assembly Government and administered by the Wales Youth Agency. The Youth Work in Wales Excellence Award was introduced to give national recognition of quality youth work practice. The Award is an annual 'reward' for past or current work with young people.

Cardiff Film Festival
Two of our youth films, Missing Mauro and Complicated Maths, were screened at this year's Film Festival in Cardiff. The 2005 Cardiff Screen Festival was the 17th National Film Festival for Wales and we would like to say well done to our budding filmmakers who we have the privilege to work with, and to our Film and Development workers, Katja Stiller, Neil Williams, and Ali Franks, for their work on these projects.
Family Album
We
worked on a new project with The National Museum and Galleries of Wales
which was launched on International Women's
Day 2005 at the National Museum in Cardiff. The project invited women
living in Wales to make short 3 minute films exploring how life has
changed for women in Wales over the generations. Participants were
helped with their films, and used film footage, photographs, poetry,
interviews, art work, words and music to explore women's lives,
looking at many issues including marriage, home, gender, roles and
relationships.

Regener-8
A new film project begun in 2004, working throughout the summer in some of the Communities First areas in Rhondda Cynon Taff, linking in with the Regener-8 project, funded by The New Opportunities Fund and aiming to offer positive activities to young people at risk. We worked with 3 new youth groups, in schools and communities in Tonypandy and Clydach, making films about the area and the lives of the group members.
