Film Projects 2003
One to One
A
new project started in 2003 in the film dept, as part of the Gap 24/7
Project, working with young offenders with Bridgend ISSP (Intensive Support
and Supervision Project), in partnership with the Bridgend Youth Offending
Team. Katja Stiller developed these workshops this year which work on
a one-to-one and small group basis, using film to creatively explore
sensitive issues around choices, crime and change.
Taking Time to Care
We worked in
a new partnership in 2002-3 with Childline and St Teilos School in Cardiff.
Katja produced a film to encourage anti-bullying schemes in schools,
using peer development training programmes and aiming to make bullying
something that is not accepted. The film was launched at the Childline
and Welsh Assembly Government conference 'Bullying in Schools - Solutions
that Work' on 3rd February 2003 in Cardiff, and has been used in many
schools in Wales this year to promote positive approaches to end bullying.

Tad (Dad)

In this Commedia Millennium Award film project in 2003, Katja Stiller and Timi O' Neil worked with Andrea Croxon to explore fatherhood in Wales, looking at how men see their roles and relationships with their families and children, and how they are seen by those around them. Andrea’s film asks the question, 'what does it mean to be a dad?' and is now being used to stimulate debate around fatherhood and families, roles and responsibilities in many local schools and community groups.

Reflections
Another Commedia Millennium
Award project in 2003 mixed film, voices and dance to explore the life
of June Campbell, a dancer living in Cardiff, who worked with Valley
and Vale to tell her story. In her film we follow her journey as she
charts her parents’ move from the Caribbean
and her own life growing up in London and coming to Cardiff. Our Film
Development Worker Katja worked with June to explore three generations
of dancers in her family, from her parents to her own child, using dance
and film to reflect on her life, history and identity.

Women’s Aid Film Launch
‘Hear the Silence' was launched by Bridgend Women’s Aid to an audience of over 200 local people, voluntary and statutory sector representatives, in the culminating event of our film festival in September 2002. This film was facilitated by Film Development Worker Katja Stiller, and made by Brian, Helen and Stephen Povey, hoping to promote awareness about the seriousness of domestic violence after their mother was killed. This film was widely screened throughout 2003 and you can see it here (broadband connection recommended).
