Falling Leaves Return to their Roots

Introduction

Falling Leaves Return to Their Roots evolved out of the 'Echoes of The BeeWee' project which was originally funded by an Arts Council of Wales Creative Wales Award in 2003. The piece was then developed for the Welsh Independent Dance 'Dance Bytes' tour in 2004.

"Re-working 'Falling leaves Return to their Roots' I wanted to explore my mixed ancestry through folkloric myths; the importance of water and ritual using film and dance theatre. Adeola Dewis, a visual artist /dancer, and myself, explored the water deity of Yamanja, the giver of life and death, in connection with the Ocean. Yamanja is still celebrated in parts of West Africa, Brazil and the Caribbean islands."
