Roots

A dance/drama project 2005 worked with adult users and ex-users of mental health services in the Bridgend area, working in partnership with Hafal. Through relaxation and creativity the group gained confidence and developed their individual expression. Workshops included role-play, creative writing, massage, dance/music interpretation and team building. Funded by a Local Mental Health grant via Wales Council for Voluntary Action, this project is part of our 'Arts, Minds and Souls' mental health initiative.

Good Company Dance Theatre

Our dance disability group developed their performance of 'Buong Song' in 2005, for 2 performances as guests with Rhondda Cynnon Taff Community Arts Dance Night in December and the Blaenau Gwent Community Dance Night in November 2005.

Turn it Up

In Spring 2005 Willows High School group started a new First Light funded project mixing performing arts with media to make a short dance film called Turn It Up. Working with a group of boys and girls at the school, we worked on a film from the group’s own ideas about young asylum seekers who use dance and rap music to express themselves and escape.

Heronsbridge Special School

In 2005 this group of young people worked with movement, dance and physical expression with Dance Development Worker Elaine Bennett, creating 'The Enormous Turnip' Creative Dance Performance.

Bettws Primary School

This lively group worked on a 'Language of Dance' theme using words and choreography in their project this year.

Tondu Primary School

Another children's dance workshop this year used dance to explore the theme of 'Shadows', with creative dance sessions working towards an assembly performance at the end of their term.

Maesteg Comprehensive School

This group studied for their OCN in Creative Dance (level 2) in 2005 and the school has also expressed an interest to continue dance in the curriculum through "enrichment" courses from January 2006.

Community-based Youth Dance

In Nantymoel 2005 at the Berwyn Centre we ran creative dance projects, with the younger group working on a new dance theme and the older group taking part in the Carlson Dance Company workshop and the Global Steps projects. Bettws Boys and Girls Club Dance and Drama workshops ran on a Saturday morning and Tuesday evening, working creatively with young people towards a performance for Christmas 2005, 'Santa’s Bad Day'.
