Person-Centred
Creativity Training
For Community Artists and Professionals Working in Social
Inclusion and Health
In 2004 The Arts Council of Wales funded a pilot course
in Person-Centred Creativity for Community Artists, following
the production of our research report 'Making Risk Work'.
The ethos and values of Person-Centred Creativity are based upon a belief in creativity as a powerful tool for individual and social change. Person-Centred Creativity focuses on the importance of building relationships with individuals and prioritises the creative process. The theoretical aspect of the work uses the Carl Rogers' Person-Centred counselling techniques of empathy, genuineness and unconditional positive regard as the foundation.
We have developed this training for Community Artists and other professionals who often work in difficult situations and with challenging participants.
These courses focus on the development of interpersonal skills, listening skills, and the ability to work with people in different situations. We will develop self-awareness, and explore boundaries, triggers, prejudices and how to deal with them. We will focus on creating safe environments, making space for reflection and following good practice guidelines.
